Mr. Claude Franklin Dover Jr.

June 14, 1938 - September 4, 2019

Mr. C. Franklin Dover, Jr. of Clarksville, Virginia, died at his home on September 4, 2019. He was born in Alamance County, N.C. on June 14, 1938, to Claude Franklin Dover and Elva Hopper Dover. He was a graduate of Williams High School, received his BA from Elon College, and a Master’s in education from the University of North Carolina. Franklin taught chemistry and physics in Mebane, N.C., as well as coached wrestling and girls’ basketball. He was the principal of Eastern Alamance High School, where he is in the Eastern Alamance Sports Hall of Fame. Franklin retired as the principal of Western Guilford High School, Greensboro, N.C. After retiring to Clarksville, he began his second career in real estate, working with United Country Real Estate. He was a large part of the United Country Virginia Realty office cooking crew, whose efforts benefitted many. The Clarksville Ruritans and Franklin sponsor Friday night dances, where people can enjoy an alcohol and tobacco free social environment. Franklin and Carol were presented the Citizen of the Year Award by the Clarksville Lake Country Chamber of Commerce. Franklin also received the Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives 2019 Good Samaritan Award. This award is given to an individual whose body of good work has been so selfless and life-changing to others that it is held up as a “gold standard” example of philanthropic community service. Franklin did his best to support and give back to the community… “All I hope for is another day to help Clarksville, Virginia.” Cherishing his memories are his wife, Carol C. Dover, one sister, Brenda Artemes (Ares) of Lake Wylie, SC, sons, Win Morris (Michelle) of Elon, NC and John Morris (Adrienne) of Iron Station, NC; grandchildren, Eli Morris, Evan Morris, Ethan Morris, Luke Morris and Emily Morris. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on September 14 at The House of Prayer located at 6793 US -58, Buffalo Junction, VA 24529. The family will receive friends prior to and immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Clarksville Ruritan Club, PO Box 44, Clarksville 23927 or to your local high school athletic department.
