John Anthony Primiano

June 8, 1930 - April 7, 2018

John Anthony Primiano, age 87, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Sentara Woodview Nursing Home in South Boston, Virginia. John was born in Staten Island, New York to Michael and Anna Primiano on June 8, 1930. He attended New York State University where he received his degree in Chemistry. Upon completion of his degree he enlisted in the Marine Corp and was a Chemical Weapons Specialist and Instructor during the Korean War. He later went to work for Dan River Mills in Danville, Virginia, as a Textile Chemist. At age 65, he retired from Rhône-Poulenc Corporation as a Research Chemist and Specialty Sales Associate in the Tire and Rubber Industry. John was a seasoned accordion player and was a member of several bands throughout his life and enjoyed in his retirement playing for nursing homes. John was an eternal optimist that carried a big smile, a kind heart, humble spirit, and faithful believer in Jesus Christ. John leaves his sister, Susan Wangenstein of Fort Myers, Florida; son, Michael of Winston Salem, North Carolina; daughter, Sallie Boone of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and three beautiful grandchildren, David and Eric Pfaeffli, and Kelsey Boone. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillie Hale Primiano, second wife, Shirley Day Primiano, daughter, Janet Primiano-Pfaeffli, and granddaughter Heather White. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Swansonville United Methodist Church, Dry Fork, Virginia with Pastor Linwood Cook officiating. Those wishing to give memorials, please consider Swansonville United Methodist Church, 16492 Franklin Turnpike, Dry Fork, Virginia 24549, Sentara Halifax Hospice, 2204 Wilborn Avenue, South Boston, Virginia 24592 or a charity of your choice.
