Shirley Day Primiano

April 10, 1939 - November 22, 2016

DANVILLE - Shirley Day Primiano of Danville passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016. She was born in South Boston on April 10, 1939 the daughter of the late Mason C. Day, Sr. and Gilmore Crute Day. Shirley was a retired educator and lectured at Danville Community College: Adjunct Faculty Member for many years; served on several curriculum advisory committees; several reaccreditation committees. Dr. Primiano was a member of the DCC Educational Foundation Board for more than 20 years: Board Chair; Vice Chair in the late 1990s; Executive Committee; DCC Knights Baseball Executive Committee; Endowed Scholarship in the name of Dr. Shirley D. Primiano Endowed Scholarship; Major Gifts Campaign Executive Committee; numerous other committees. Elected to Danville City Council (10 years); Danville Development Council (DDC)—economic development—served on the Board; Vice Chair; Chair. Numerous other civic/community organizations and boards. She was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century. Shirley is survived by her husband, John Anthony Primiano of Danville; two sisters, Barbara Day Bass and Sandra Day Sneed, both of South Boston; and two brothers, Michael Day and Mason Day Jr., both of South Boston. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mason C. Day, Sr. and Gilmore Crute Day. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 26, at 11 a.m. at Swansonville United Methodist Church in Dry Fork, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Swansonville United Methodist Church, 16492 Franklin Turnpike, Dry Fork, VA 24549 or a charity of choice.
