Buffalo Junction, VA Alfred Joseph “Scooter” Savarese, 90, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018. He was born on December 9, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY to Frederick and Josephine Savarese. Scooter was an US Army veteran of the Korean War. After his service in the Army, his love for baseball brought him to South Boston with the Wrappers, a semi-professional baseball team. Scooter enjoyed playing baseball and softball for many years and was inducted to the Halifax County Sports Hall of Fame. He also loved living on the lake and enjoyed boating. He worked as a telephone company technician in South Boston. Scooter is the widower of Frances Harmon Savarese and Nell Griffin Savarese. Mr. Savarese is survived by his step-sons Mike Hodges (Angela) of Buffalo Junction and Ronnie Hodges of Danville; grandchildren Michelle Poole (Stevie) of Buffalo Junction, Taylor Hodges (Mary) of Midlothian, and Ben Hodges (Maggie) of Danville; and great grandchildren Kennedy Taylor Poole and Avery Carol Poole. Scooter is pre-deceased by his wives, Frances and Nell; his step-daughter Linda Hodges and his Aunt “Tessie” who raised him. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Gravel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 1662 Carters Point Road, Buffalo Junction, VA24529 with Father Rogelio Largoza and the Reverend Robert Faile officiating.The family will receive friends at the home of Mike and Angela Hodges.
