Anthony Scott Hudson

February 17, 1969 — August 18, 2025

Anthony Scott Hudson, age 56, of 4187 Red Bank Road, Virgilina VA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday evening August 18, 2025 at Duke University Hospital surrounded by his family,

Scott was born February 17, 1969 in Halifax County, Virginia and was proudly raised and lived in Virgilina, and specifically “God’s Country” of Red Bank. He is the son of Curtis Hudson and the late Phyllis Hudson. While he was a man of many talents, he was most proud to call himself a farmer, a passion that was cultivated and fostered in him from an early age by his great grandfather, Asa Morris. His love for the land went deep and was a constant in his life, and he loved to share his knowledge with others. In recent years he was elected to be the chairman and district director of Halifax County Soil and Water Conservation District, a title that he was incredibly proud of and a job that he tirelessly worked at until the end. In this position he was particularly passionate about regenerative agriculture and told anyone who would listen about this amazing practice.

The other great passion of his life was his daughter, Ashton Sierra Hudson. He loved being a father, and a father figure, to her and her friends as they were growing up on the farm. From teaching her how to drive, instilling her work ethic, and body slams on the bed - he made sure growing up was an adventure that had fun constantly sprinkled through.

Last November he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and he fought an incredible battle until the end and continuously asked when would he be able to start his chemo treatments again. The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Hope Uronis, Deanna Griffie, and all of the incredible staff at the Duke Cancer Institute for treating him like family and helping him every step of the way.

Surviving are his one and only daughter, Ashton Sierra Hudson of Raleigh, NC; father, Curtis Hudson of Virgilina, VA; sisters, Jennifer Lowery and husband Chris, of Warrenton, VA, Joan Cannon and husband Rob, of New Kent, VA, & Jacqueline Young and husband Craig, of Virgilina, VA; nieces and nephews, Drew Talley and wife Ashley, of Virgilina, VA, Maci Lowery of Warrenton, VA, Laci Wilkins and fiancé Matthew, of South Boston VA, and Ryan Cannon, of Richmond, VA; great nephew and niece, Jackson Talley and Mila Talley, both of Virgilina, VA; aunt, Pam Eakes and husband Harvey, of South Boston, VA; daughter-in-law, Britney Nestor and grandson, Shannin Nestor of Virgilina, VA; cousin, Michael Hudson and wife Donna, of Virgilina, VA; “his right hand man" on the farm for 15 years, Melvin Leon of Chapultepec, Guerrero, Mexico; and countless other aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends.

In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his son and farming protege, James Nestor, exactly 9 years to the day.

A celebration of life will be conducted at North Fork Baptist Church at 2:00 pm Thursday, August 21, 2025 with Rev. Greg Thomas and Rev. Norman Talley officiating, with a burial following at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm Thursday August 21, 2025 at North Fork Baptist Church, and other times at his childhood home at 1242 Rip Rap Road in Virgilina VA.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Duke Cancer Institute in his honor.
