It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Beatrice Morris Buchanan, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of the Clarksville community. Beatrice departed this life peacefully on Friday, September 12th, 2025, at the age of 96. She was a resident of Buch's Haven Drive in Clarksville, Virginia.
Beatrice was born on Wednesday, April 3rd, 1929, and throughout her long and fulfilling life, she touched the hearts of many. She was preceded in death by her cherished family members; her parents, Willie Osborn Morris and Bess Lee Tuck Morris; her husband, William Lester Buchanan; her former son-in-law, Andy Frederick; siblings, Thomas Edward Morris, Albert Keneth Morris, Henry Burnett Morris, Franklin Roosevelt Morris, Woodrow Lacey Morris, Willie Osborn Morris Jr., Nellie Marie Morris, David Lee Morris, Barbara Jean Morris Holt, two infant sisters, and her infant daughter, Mary Lee Buchanan.
Beatrice is survived by her loving daughter, Marie Frederick of Clarksville, VA, her adoring granddaughter Jessica (Steven) Menteer of Rockport, IN, and great-grandchildren Steven Allen Menteer III, Josie Marie, Ramona Ellen, Vivian Rose, and Andrew Robert. She is also survived by her brother, Gerald Morris, sisters-in-law Cordelia Stigall Morris and Ann Phillps Morris, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces who will carry her memory with them.
A graduate of Virgilina High School, Beatrice found joy in her work at Russell Stover and Burlington Textiles in Clarksville, VA. As a farmer's wife, she was well-respected and loved for her unwavering support of her family and her community. She gave love and deep affection to everyone she met. Her devotion to the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life—centered on love, compassion, and kindness.
Beatrice's sense of adventure and endless curiosity made her an avid reader of historical fiction and non-fiction books. Her family was her greatest pride and joy, especially her granddaughter Jessie and her husband Steve, whose company she treasured. She loved spending time playing with her daughter, grand-daughter, and great-grandchildren. Her beloved dog, "Poppy," was a constant and faithful companion.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Beatrice's remarkable life at a memorial event. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 pm, followed by a primary service on Thursday, September 18th, 2025, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow her memorial service at Union Chapel Baptist Cemetery. Both services will take place at the Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home Chapel.
