Bill Evans Rice

August 15, 1975 — October 6, 2025

Virgilina

Bill E. Rice, 50, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2025. He was born on August 15, 1975, and was the son of Pat Honeycutt and Bobby Rice of Virgilina, VA.

Bill attended school in Halifax County, VA and graduated in 1996. After graduation, Bill worked at the Hatcher Center in Blairs, VA. Prior to moving back to Virgilina with his mother, Bill lived at the Westmoreland Schoolfield Apartments in Danville.

Bill was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Charlton and Dorothy Honeycutt, and his paternal grandparents Claude and Louise Rice.

Bill is survived by his mother, Pat Honeycutt, his father, Bobby(Nancy) Rice, brothers Mark(Roxanne) and CW(Kelly) Rice. Bill is also survived by his nephew, Austin(Brittany) Rice, Cole Rice, niece, Addison Rice, and great niece Jupiter Rice, who always made him smile and brought a sparkle to his eyes like no one else could.

Although Bill lived his entire life with challenges that few can comprehend, he was an extremely capable man. He was capable of making a commitment. If Bill liked someone or something, he was committed. He loved racing and wrestling. He loved movies, bowling, and video games. He loved pens and notebooks, but most of all, he loved his family and friends, and he was all in.

Bill was capable of caring about the things and people he loved. He cared about what others thought, and he was capable of appreciating the time taken and the effort made on his behalf.

He was capable of being considerate of others, never wanting to put them out.

Bill was capable of finding humor in many situations. His comical side was sometimes surprising, but always refreshing. He was quite the comedian.

Most of all though, he was capable of living courageously every single day of his short life. He didn’t shy away from adventure, even when he didn’t feel well, or when the adventure was physically challenging for him. He loved going on outings with friends, to the casino with his mom, to the beach with his family, and to family gatherings wherever they took place.

He was capable of teaching others that having a positive outlook on life, even when life is a daily challenge, is possible. All who were lucky enough to meet Bill are better for knowing him.

Bill’s family is especially grateful for the support and love he received by dedicated staff members of the ARC of Southside, Quanta Thomas, Steve Anderson, Jean Allen, and Anne Deboe during the time he lived in his apartment in Danville.

The family is also appreciative of the respectful and gentle care given to Bill by his PCP, Joseph(Mike) Compton, P.A., who Bill referred to as his angel and best buddy. Additionally, the family would like to express their sincere gratitude to 1st Care at Home Hospice for the excellent care provided during Bill’s last days.

A private service is being planned for a later time. The families will receive visitors at the homes of Pat Honeycutt, 1070 Eighth Street, Virgilina and Bob and Nancy Rice, 1184 Gill’s Mountain Road, Virgilina.
