Brenda Cahoon

Brenda Smith Cahoon, 82, of Chase City, VA, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2026. Brenda was born February 17, 1944, in Eccles, WV, daughter of the late Phil James Smith and Grace Stover Smith.

Brenda worked her entire career as a Registered Nurse, serving a variety of populations throughout Virginia and West Virginia. Her longest tenure was as an Oncology Nurse in Roanoke, VA, and she retired from nursing after serving as Head Nurse at Mecklenburg Correctional Center in Boydton, VA. After retirement, she served as a volunteer at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital.

Brenda was an avid gardener and enjoyed making crafts and sewing. She was passionate about her family and remained active in her children's and grandchildren’s lives. She was a member of Jamieson Memorial Methodist Church and an active member of the New Beginnings Circle prior to joining Liberty Baptist Church.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Glenn Garner, of Chase City, VA; son, Richard Castle and wife Laura of Clarksville, VA; two siblings, Ronald Smith and Reva Smith both of Beckley, WV; two step-daughters, Wendy Mull (Jason) and Cheryl Joynt; two grandchildren, Wesley and Grace Castle; and two step-grandchildren, Carter and Hannah Mull.

A celebration of life will be held at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville, VA, on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11:00 am. The family would also like to invite friends and family to join them one hour prior, beginning at 10:00 am for a visitation at the same location.
