Carlton Lee Dobson, of the Hunting Creek community, passed away on June 4, 2026 at the age of 72. Carlton was born May 12,1954, in Greer, South Carolina, to Alvin Charles Dobson and Doris Ellis Dobson. Carlton graduated from Greer High School in 1973 and Greenville Technical College in 1975 with a certification in auto mechanics.
He was raised in Memorial Methodist Church in Greer, S.C. He met Pat Hunt in 1972 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He moved to Virginia in 1976, and they were married in 1978.
He joined Black Walnut Baptist Church in 1976 and was baptized there. He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sang in the choir. In 2001, they moved to Hunting Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Pat, a son, Timothy, and his wife, Kristina, and grandchildren, Tucker and Reese, from Roanoke, VA. He is also survived by a daughter, Rebecca and her husband, Aaron. He has adoptive grandchildren - Aayden, Savannah & Bradley and numerous friends and family.
In addition to his parents, Doris & Charles, he was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Beth, who died just before her 4 year old birthday; and brothers, Greg & Rick Dobson.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Hunting Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Clinton McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 2 PM until 3 PM, at the church and other times at the home.
The family requests memorials in Carlton's name be made to Halifax County Cancer Association, the SECU house in Winston-Salem, N.C., Black Walnut Baptist Church or Hunting Creek Baptist Church.
