Carolyn Poythress Pittard

Carolyn Poythress Pittard, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, and friend, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 15th, 2026, at the age of 82 at Granville Medical Center. She was born on September 19th, 1943, near the Stateline Baptist Assembly in Virginia to the late Robert G. Poythress and Edna Royster Poythress.

She is survived by her loving children, Ginger Pittard, Kenny Pittard, and Kaci Pittard, and was grandmother to Robert Pittard, Bryce Pittard, Tysen Pittard, and Taleah Pittard. Her legacy of kindness and strength continues through her two great-granddaughters, Layla and Armani Pittard. Carolyn also leaves behind her dear sister-in-law, Brenda Wilkinson, and her nephews, David Poythress, Jay Wilkinson, and Rich Wilkinson.

Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Donald Reid Pittard; her parents, Robert G. Poythress and Edna Royster Poythress; her brother, James Robert Poythress; and her grandmother, Lonie S. Royster, whom she affectionately called "Mammy."

A graduate of Bluestone High School, Carolyn furthered her education at a local secretary school. Her professional journey led her to Burlington Mills and Granville County Soil and Conservation, where she dedicated over 30 years of her life. Alongside her husband, they both farmed tobacco for many years, contributing tirelessly to their shared livelihood.

Her two constant companions, Chloe and Romeo, her beloved Chihuahuas, brought joy and affection to her everyday life.

In accordance with her wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Amis Chapel Baptist Church. Family and close friends will gather to celebrate her life and the profound impact she had on those around her.
