Mr. Cedric Earl Arrington of 1410 Wilkerson St., South Boston died Friday, July 2, 2010 at the age of 88. Mr. Arrington was born in Halifax Co. on February 10, 1922 to the late Elmer Leslie Arrington, Sr. and the late Eliza Kent Strickland Arrington, and was married to the late Ruby Daniel Arrington. He was retired from J. P. Stevens and a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, 14th Armored Division. He was a member of First Baptist Church, V.F.W. Post 8243, American Legion Post 8, and a lifetime member of the 14th Armored Division Association. Survivors include one son, Earl D. Arrington, Sr. and wife, Teresa of South Boston; one daughter, Penny A. Rush of Danville; three grandchildren, Twila Wallace, Robyn A. May, and Earl D. Arrington, Jr.; three step grandchildren, Heather Puryear, Kelly Puryear and Samantha Puryear; two great-grandchildren; and 3 step great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer Leslie Arrington, Jr., Harry Arrington, James Arrington and Calvin Lee Heath, and two sisters, Ella Ford and Connie Arrington. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dave Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Monday, July 5 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
