Claudia Fitts

August 4, 1947 — January 31, 2026

South Boston

Claudia Crowder Fitts, 78, peacefully moved to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on January 31st 2026. She was born August 4th, 1947 in Halifax County, Virginia to Myrtle Elizabeth Smith and Claude Harvey Crowder who both preceded her in death. Her father Claude tragically passed before she was born, but later her mother remarried Willard L. Link who was a loving father in her life. He also preceded her in death.

Claudia’s strong faith and relationship with the Lord started at a young age and she was known by many for her beautiful voice where she sang for the Lord in the gospel music group The Harmony Believers formed with her brother Donald Vincent Link. Her brother also preceded her in death. Claudia’s life was defined by her huge heart for serving and giving to others. She not only cared for her family but for her four-legged pets and rescue animals that seemed to find her and knew her home address. Claudia was married to her high school sweetheart, Willie Truman Fitts, for 55 years and he also preceded her in death.

Claudia is survived by her daughter Wendy Fitts Brooks and her husband Henry A. Brooks, Jr. of Cluster Springs, Virginia. She proudly became Nana Claudia to Jacob David Wilson (Sarah) of Moneta, Virginia; Joseph Marshall Wilson (Morgan Dickerson, fiancée) of Charlotte County, Virginia; Mekhi Brooks of Halifax, Virginia; Petty Officer Third Class JaMarion Brooks of San Diego, California; bonus granddaughter Brittany Smith (Daniel Bowling, fiancé) of South Boston, Virginia, and her bonus great-granddaughter Lainey Mae Smith. All her grandchildren were her absolute pride and joy, whether they were near or far she covered them in prayer daily and loved texting them encouraging words along with her favorite emoijis. Also survived by Sister-in-love Sherry Beard (Retired Brigadier General Kenneth Beard) of Lenoir, North Carolina, and nephew Edward Link, Cluster Springs, Virginia. In addition, Claudia also had a special niece, Shelby Fitts Phillips (Rodney) of Bainbridge, Georgia. She also had a special friend Tamara Brooks-Wilkerson of Greensboro, NC who she loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, consider memorial donations to the Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire Dept. PO Box 110, Cluster Springs, VA 24535 or Halifax County Virginia Paws and Claws SPCA USA, PO Box 14, South Boston, VA 24592, or another charity of your choice.
