Cornelia Solomon Moore

October 17, 1927 — March 31, 2026

Alton

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Cornelia Isabelle Solomon Moore, known by all as "Nelia", on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. She was born on October 17, 1927, in Halifax County, Virginia, daughter of the late Ollie Lawson Solomon and Cornelia "Connie" Murray Solomon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Cleveland Moore, Jr. and brothers Ernest Solomon and Lonnie Solomon.

A graduate of Turbeville High School in 1944, Nelia was a woman of diligence and dedication. Nelia joined Slagle Fire Equipment Company in 1967 as one of 4 employees. At her retirement as office manager after 67 years, the company had grown to 55 employees. As she described, she did everything from selling fire trucks to sweeping floors.

Neilia loved golf and was an accomplished bowler. She was a member of the Women's Bowling Association and USBC for 45 years. She bowled in more than 50 state tournaments and was inducted into the South Boston USBC Bowling Hall of Fame in 2016. Nelia also was committed to her church, Olive Branch United Methodist Church, where she served on the Women's Missionary Society and was typically involved in many luncheons and Christmas programs.

Neila's kitchen was a haven for family and friends, turning out Southern delights for those who were fortunate enough to enjoy them. Nelia found joy in travel and cruises with her beloved nieces. She loved playing cards with friends, sharing laughter and creating memories that will be treasured always.

Nelia is survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
