  • With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Currie Linwood Holt, a cherished father,grandfather, great-grandfather, and esteemed member of the Clarksville community.
  • He wasborn in Graham, NC on February 25, 1934 and transitioned peacefully with family at his side on

    Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the age of 92.

    1. He leaves behind a loving family, including his children, Lisa Verstraete (Phil) and John McGrath,
    2. his grandchildren, Mark Verstraete and Patrick "P.J." Verstraete (Catherine), and his great-
    3. granddaughter, Parker Catherine Verstraete. Linwood was preceded in death by his beloved
    4. spouse, Linda Holt, his son, Tom Holt, his daughter, Holly Holt, his father, Currie Holt, and his
  • mother, Lula Holt.

  • Linwood's journey in life began on the family farm. Shortly thereafter, his exceptional athletic
  • talent earned him a baseball scholarship to Wake Forest University, where he earned his
  • Bachelor's degree. As a talented catcher, Linwood led Wake Forest to victory in the 1955 NCAA
  • College World Series. He was named MVP of entire tournament. He remained an avid supporter
  • of the Demon Deacons, and his legacy lives on as an inductee in the Wake Forest Athletic Hall of

Fame.

  • In 1956, Linwood moved to Clarksville, VA, a community he grew to cherish deeply. During his
  • time in Clarksville, he owned and operated three highway road construction companies. He also
  • played a pivotal role in the development of Prestwould Estates in the early 1960s. Linwood was
  • active member of the Clarksville community, where he raised his family and lived for the
  • duration of his life. He was also a generous contributor to the community. As just one example,
  • Linwood and his late wife Linda provided initial funding for the development of the Lake

Country SPCA in Clarksville.

  • Linwood and Linda shared many life passions and interests, especially golf. He was an original
  • member of Kinderton Country Club. One of their most cherished golf memories together was
  • playing the Old Course at St. Andrews. Linwood played Augusta National many times during his
  • life, which always remained his favorite course.
  • Linwood's life will be celebrated at the Watkins Cooper Funeral Home on May 16 at 12pm. In
