Cuyler Leonard Wentz Sr.

Cuyler Leonard "C.L." Wentz Sr., beloved father, grandfather, brother, and treasured friend to many, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5th, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on April 9th, 1946, C.L. graced the world with his warmth, humor, and dedication to family and community.

C.L. spent most of his life in Halifax County, later residing in Danville, VA, and Pelham, NC. He was a proud alumnus of George Washington High School, graduating in the Class of 1964, and went on to earn a business degree from Virginia Tech in 1973.

C.L. devoted over 30 years of his professional life to the Danville VA Health Department and County Administration, where he was respected for his commitment and exceptional service.

C.L. had a zest for life that was evident in his hobbies and interests. He loved fishing, dancing, playing cards, and had an enduring passion for sports, especially baseball. His presence was a source of joy and inspiration to all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving sons, Cuyler Leonard Wentz II (Shannon), Christopher Shawn Wentz (Melissa), and Richard Hansel Wentz. Cherished grandfather to Danielle Kasyn Wentz, Hadyn Paige Wentz, and Dalton Cuyler Wentz, C.L. was a guiding light for his family. His brother, Douglas Howard Wentz Sr., along with numerous nieces and nephews, continue to celebrate his memory.

C.L. was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Hansel Wentz and Lois Leonard Wentz, and his brother, Lester Hansel Wentz Jr.

A celebration of C.L.’s remarkable life will be held on Tuesday, June 2nd, at 6:30 PM, at Dan River Church in Danville VA, with Pastor Scott Randlett officiating the service. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior, beginning at 5:30 PM at the same location.
