It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Delores Newby Griffin, who departed this world on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on January 4, 1946, in the peaceful town of Bullock, NC, Delores was a treasured soul who enriched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Delores resided in the charming community of Clarksville, VA, where she was a beloved friend and neighbor. She dedicated many years of her life as an accomplished Office Administrator, known for her remarkable organizational skills, unwavering dedication, and a kind heart that touched everyone at her workplace.
Delores leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Robert "Bobby" Griffin, a testament to a lifetime filled with love and partnership. She is also survived by her son, Robert Duane Griffin and his wife Karen, who together honor Delores's legacy through their love and shared memories.
Her family also includes two cherished nieces, Wendy Feild and Jennifer Coghill. She adored her great-niece, Julia Coghill, and great-nephew, Justin Feild, along with her great-great-nephew, Jackson Feild, who brought immense joy to her life. Delores will be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Nancy Newby, as well as her brothers-in-law, William E. Griffin (Maxine) and Timothy O. Griffin (Wanda), who were an integral part of her extended family.
Delores was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Willie Lee Newby Sr. and Nannie Newby, and her brother, Willie Lee "Sonny" Newby Jr., who she now joins in eternal rest.
A graveside service to honor Delores's life will be held at Marrows Chapel Church Cemetery in Oxford, NC, on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to gather as they celebrate a life well-lived and share in recounting fond memories and stories of Delores.
The family would like to extend a heart felt thank you to the staff of 1st Care At Home Hospice and Sheri Ransom-Oxendine for their care of Delores during this difficult time. Arrangements have been prepared by Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, ensuring that Delores's final farewell is carried out with the utmost respect and care.
Delores Griffin leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved her, and she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
