Virgilina

Dwight Estes Stewart, a resident of Virgilina, VA, went to his Heavenly home on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the age of 81. He was born on June 25, 1945, in Halifax County to the late Caleb Henry Stewart and the late Reafer Stuart Stewart, who instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion. He continued their legacy through his spirit of generosity and commitment to helping those around him.

Dwight spent many years working at Heilig-Meyers and Farmers Home Furniture stores as a supervisor, guiding and mentoring those in his charge. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dwight was an incredible force of benevolence in his community. He was an active member of his church, First Baptist Church, where he sang joyfully in the choir and lifted hearts each Sunday. Music was a passion for Dwight, and he also shared his talents with the Stewart family group, creating cherished memories with loved ones.

Dwight's heart for service was evident in his volunteer work at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, where his kindness brought comfort to many. His commitment to helping others was further displayed through his part-time work at True Value, where he was always ready with a smile and a helping hand, and continued through his many years volunteering with the North Carolina Special Olympics State games.

Dwight’s legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him. As he joins those who have gone before him, his family, friends, and community will forever remember his gentle spirit and unwavering dedication to others.

He is survived by his sons, Tony Mills (Leslie), Marti Stewart (Crystal) and Lance Stewart; siblings, Annie S. Daniel (Bill), Gaylon Stewart (Marilyn), Ervin Stewart, Jeri Spurlock (Gene), James Stewart (Debra), Rita S. Rogers, Jack Stewart (Pat) and Nina S. Bryant; grandchildren, Gabe Stewart, Holland Mills, Skyler Stewart, Mary Mills, Kelsi Stewart, Colin Stewart, Lexi Stewart, Autumn Stewart, Grayson Stewart, and Abbey Gentry; and his great grandson, Colt Gentry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Hugh Warren Stewart.
