SOUTH BOSTON - Mrs. Edith Loftis Burton of South Boston, VA died Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the age of 95. She was born in Halifax Co., VA on January 21, 1921 to the late Obediah Loftis and the late Allie Arrington Loftis and was married to the late Elwood Banks Burton. Edith was a LPN at Dr. Burnett’s and a member of First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent of the nursery program for many years. She was a former member of the Tuesday Woman’s Club and “Eastern Star”. Mrs. Burton is survived by three daughters, Nancy B. Tetterton and husband, Dale of South Hill, VA, JoAnne B. Pugh and husband, Wayne of Dinwiddie, VA, and Debbie B. Martin (late husband, Henry) of Halifax, VA; five grandchildren, Michael Pugh, Robert Pugh, Susan Tetterton, Beth Tetterton, and Scott Martin; and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 1:00 at First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dave Anderson and the Reverend Doctor Bob Ballance officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Friday, April 1 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home of Debbie Martin, 1046 Evergreen Trail, Halifax, VA.
