VIRGILINA, VA Mrs. Gladys Ruth C. Cole Newcomb passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019 at the age of 94.Born in Halifax County on March 31, 1924, she was the daughter of the late James Ernest and Fannie Bet Cole. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Raleigh N. Cole and her 2nd husband, Richard Newcomb. Gladys was a lifelong member of Aarons Creek Baptist Church. She was retired from Burlington Industries and was a phenomenal seamstress, making clothes and quilts. She loved to travel, especially car road trips. Survivors include her daughters. Carolyn C. Elliott and husband, Clyde of Statesville, NC, and Nancy C. Marshall of Lexington, SC; son, James N. Cole and wife, Mary H. of Halifax, VA; brother, Causey Cole of Clarksville, VA; sister, Barbara Woltz of Buffalo Junction, VA; grandchildren, Brian Marshall and Alan Marshall of Lexington, SC, Mark Elliott of Apex, NC, James E. Cole and Christopher L. Cole of Virgilina, VA; great grandchildren, Colin Marshall, Brianne Marshall, Alexander Marshall, Christopher Marshall, and Alyssa Marshall, all of Lexington, SC, Hannah Byrd of Statesville, NC, Brooke Elliott and Jake Elliott of Apex, NC. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harry W. Cole, sister, Estelle Cole Gupton, sister-in-law, Estelle Cole, brother-in-law, James Woltz and a grandchild, Natalie Elliott. Funeral services for Mrs. Newcomb will be Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Aarons Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Brian Gough officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00 AM at Aarons Creek Baptist Church.
