With heavy hearts and deep love, the family of Hilton Carroll Hudson announces his passing on December 10, 2025, at the age of 84. He was born on January 26, 1941 to the late Floyd and Virginia Hudson. Hilton lived a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. These values he carried with quiet strength and shared generously with everyone around him.
Hilton is survived by his devoted wife, Ann, of 64 years. He was a proud and loving father to his children: Ronnie and wife Sheila, and their daughter Lisa (Jeff); Thomas and wife Leslie, their son Zachary (predeceased), their daughter Kara and her husband David and their children Henry and Belle Ann and son Christopher; Jamey and wife Melinda, and their children Levi, Jaden, and Jason; Steve and wife Holly, and their children Seth and Clare; Jonathan and wife Rebecca, and their children Hilton "Jonah" and Mary Katherine; brothers, Curtis Hudson and Alan Hudson (Harriett); sisters, Linda Hudson Gale (Ross) and Judy Hudson Lee (Winston); sister-in-law, Sandra Hudson; brother-in-law, Melvin Bowen and many nieces, nephews and other family members and a special caregiver, Kim Dyer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Muriel Williams, Hollis Bowen, David Hudson & Paul Hudson and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hudson and Erline Hudson.
To his family, Hilton was not only the steady foundation they leaned on, but also a source of laughter, stories, and quiet wisdom. His family values reached not just his children, but his community as well. Hilton’s days were shaped by honest work and dedication. He spent countless hours as an active member, trustee, cemetery committee member and deacon in First Crossroads Baptist Church. He was a faithful member and his belief led him to be at church every Sunday. His faith inspired those around him.
His dedication extended in the tobacco, grain and produce fields, believing deeply in the dignity of labor and the importance of doing things the right way. In addition to these endeavors, he truly loved tending to his cows, horses, and garden. His influence extended far beyond his own farm. Hilton served proudly on the boards of VAGA, VCIA, ASCS (FSA), and Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Turbeville Ruritan club and Turbeville Fire Dept, striving to support and strengthen the farming community he loved so much. He was the Farm Bureau producer of the year 2022 and a founding member of the Turbeville Cantaloupe Growers Association.
In 1993, Hilton was honored as the Sunbelt Farmer of the Year for the state of Virginia, a recognition that brought him and his family great pride and showed a lifetime of commitment to the land and to the people who worked it.
Hilton was a man of faith, family, and compassion. He had a gift for making others feel welcome, valued, and cared for. His community felt the steady warmth of his presence, and his absence will be felt deeply by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives through the family who loved him beyond measure.
