James "Jim" Henry Burnes

James Henry Burnes, a devoted family man and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 4th, 2025, at the age of 79 surrounded by his family in South Boston, Virginia. Born on a August 6th, 1945, James, affectionately known as Jim, lived a life full of warmth, humor, and service.

Jim’s formative years were spent in fervent dedication to his country, spending an honorable three decades in service between the Army and the Navy. Notably, he served as a Fire Marshal for the United States Navy, a role he fulfilled with unwavering commitment. His service was marked by honor and a deep sense of duty, traits that truly defined him.

Beyond his professional life, Jim was renowned for his quick wit and those delightfully dry dad jokes, particularly his signature quip, "How ya feeling?" to which he'd humorously respond, "With my hands." These moments of humor brought lightness and laughter to all who knew him. A true family man, he cherished time spent with his beloved family, sharing laughs, stories, and good food. Jim was particularly fond of home-cooked meals and could often be found enjoying such comforts surrounded by his loved ones.

Jim had a lifelong passion for fishing, a hobby that took him to serene waters where he could find peace and reflection. His commitment to family was evident in all aspects of his life, and he was a beloved father, grandfather, and brother.

Jim is survived by his devoted children: Wendy Burnes, Cheryl Greene (Dennis), Sharon Beauregard, Danielle Beauregard (Cecil), and James Beauregard. His legacy also continues through his cherished grandchildren: Andrea, Alexandria, Branden, Matthew, Hana, Kylie, Candace, Lucian, Aanika, Brent, and Chelsey; and his great-grandchildren: Hailie, Everett, Peyton, and Parker. He is also survived by his loving brother, Bill Burnes.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie McCoy Burnes and Nora Burnes, his beloved wife Collette "Candy", his brother Cecil Burnes, and grandchildren Levi and Lil Collette, whom he now joins in eternal peace.

A graveside service will be held in Ash Flat, Arkansas, where Jim will be lovingly laid to rest alongside his dear wife, Candy. Arrangements are being graciously handled by Brooks-Lyon Funeral Home.

Jim's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have shared in the joy of knowing him. He will be dearly missed and eternally remembered by all who were blessed to be touched by his life.
