Jerry Allen Wilborne

Mr. Jerry Allen Wilborne of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on May 19, 2025 at the age of 73. Jerry was born in South Boston, VA on November 30, 1951 to Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Davis Wilborne, Jr. and was a 1970 graduate of Halifax County High School. He continued his education by attending Danville Community College where he received his Associates Degree.

After completing his Associates Degree, Mr. Wilborne attended VCU in Richmond for a year before moving to Fort Myers, FL where he spent over 40 years shrimping along the Gulf Coast from Ft. Myers, FL to Brownsville, TX. He loved this line of work. During his return home visits, he told family members of the many adventures he had in the Gulf.

At one point in his fishing career, he left the Gulf and traveled to the New England coast area. Jerry was one of the fishermen out in the waters off the coast of New England during the “Perfect Storm” of October 1991. After this experience, he returned to the Gulf until he retired.

Prior to retiring, Jerry earned his current United States Coast Guard license as U.S. Merchant Marine Officer, his diploma as Captain Jerry Wilborne in recognition of successful completion of the U.S. Coast Guard approved curriculum for Master of Motor Vessels of not more than 100 gross tons, and his diploma as Captain for successful completion of the U.S. Coast Guard approved curriculum for Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV).

Mr. Wilborne is survived by his sister, Linda W. Conner (Jimbo) of Oak Island, NC; brothers, Larry Wilborne (Cindy) of Scottsburg, Michael R. Wilborne of South Boston, and Tim Wilborne (Brenda) of Orange Park, FL; nephews, Brian Compton, Chad Wilborne, Chris Wilborne, and Travis Hite; nieces, April Carter, Rebecca W. Vecera, Crystal M. Brown, and Tina Compton; great nieces, Taylor Carter, Cassidy Carter, Addisyn Brown, Jadyn Hite and Magnolia Mae Vecera; and great nephews, Jaxon Hite, Blake Brown, Dallas Vecera, David McFarlane, and Caleb McFarlane.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Mae Wilborne and his sister, Patricia W. Siddle.

A graveside service with immediate family will be held later.
