Dr. John Thomas Newell, II, age 74, husband of Suzanne Nelson Newell, died March 1, 2007 at his home. Native to Chicago, Il., Dr. Newell was a Professor at Shaw University. In addition to his wife, survivors are son, Jay; daughters, Laurie, Erika, Erin, and Johnna. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren. Services will be held at the Shaw University Chapel on Wednesday, March 7th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shaw University Science Department, The American Cancer Society or The American Lung Association.
