John Henry Smith, of Virgilina, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026 at the age of 92. He was born in Halifax County on April 27, 1934 to the late Obediah and Roxie Pulliam Smith. He is survived by his wife, Ida Pulliam Smith.

John was retired from the former Rochester Button Company Factory in South Boston. He loved working on old cars and lawnmowers. He also enjoyed strumming his banjo and playing cards with friends and family.

In addition to his wife, Ida, he is survived by his children, James Henry Smith, Nancy Smith White and Otis Lee Smith; sisters, Dorothy Hite and Margaret Link; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence Ray Smith and Robert Smith.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Aaron's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 from 7 PM until 8:30 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.

Immediately following the service, all are invited to the Aaron's Creek Community House for light refreshments.

Arrangements are provided by Brooks Lyon Funeral and Cremation Services, 115 Main Street, South Boston.
