Julianna Smith Buchanan

RICHMOND Julianna Smith Buchanan of Richmond, VA and formerly of Halifax County passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at the age of 95. She was born in Emmerton, VA on November 25, 1926 to the late Herman and Corrine Packett Smith.Julianna was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Charles Brown and her 2nd husband, John Thomas Buchanan. Julianna's career was in nursing, having received her degree at Grace Hospital in Richmond. She transitioned to South Boston and started working with Dr. William C. Brannwhere she assisted in the delivery of many babies, Fuller-Roberts Clinic, and later Halifax Regional Hospital in the O.R. In 2007 she returned to Richmond and lived at the Guardian Place, where she played piano for entertainment and also their Sunday services. She was a member of Clover United Methodist Church where she was the church pianist for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Gwen Brown Dickinson and husband, Jimmy; grandchildren, Joey (Dana), John (Catherine), and Jason Vanlandingham (Kim), Collins Headley (Tracy) and Sara Headley (Marie); 7 step children; 6 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Bobby and Reya Roller, Ryan & Reid. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by sisters, Virginia Elliott and Bland Douglas. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kerry Halbert officiating. Interment will follow in Clover Cemetery.
