Lula Collins Newton

Mrs. Lula Collins Newton, 94, widow of Raymond Blanks Newton, died Sunday Apr. 2 at her residence. Mrs. Newton was born in Norton and was raised in Amelia County. All of her life was spent working in the area of beauty, first as a beautician, then in flowers with Powell Florist in South Boston and finally in horticulture for Aarons Creek Farms in Clarksville. Her love for family was evidenced by her surviving family daughters and their husbands Erline & David Hudson of South Boston, Gaynelle & William Vest of Virginia Beach, Daphine & Gary Kimball of Clarksville, Betty & HL Crews of Crystal Hill and Patty & Hugh Daniel of Oxford, NC; and a son and his wife Elwood & Peggy Newton of Virgilina; 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Tuesday 11 AM in the Union Chapel Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Chris Sorensen and the son of a life friend Rev. Donald Wilson. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville Monday night 7PM until 8:30 PM.
