Boydton, VA - Manuel Borges Cabral, husband of Julia Higginbothan Cabral, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017 at the age of 96.He was born in New Bedford, MA on March 29, 1921 to the late John and Adelaide Mendonca Cabral. Mr. Cabral served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.He owned and operated Cabral Sunoco service station for 28 years prior to his retirement.Mr. Cabral was a member of the VFW, the Knights of Columbus and St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Clarksville. Cherishing his memories are his wife, Julia Cabral; daughter, Paula Jean Crews (Robert) of Boydton; grandchildren, Melissa Johnson (Phil) of Shelby, NC and Robert Crews, Jr. (Carrie) of High Point, NC; great-grandchildren, Will Swofford, Jr., Matthew Johnson, Meighan Swofford all of Shelby, NC, Savannah Crews, Dalton Crews and Julia Crews all of High Point, NC; great great-grandchild, McKinley Swofford and siblings, Lena Bergeron and Irene Drolet. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cabral was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Grimley, Rose Andrade, Arthur Cabral, Joseph Cabral, Agnes Francis and David Cabral. A Catholic Mass will be said at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.Rev. Fr. Augustine Lukenge will officiate.The family will receive friends at the home of Bob and Paula Crews, 3650 Taylor Ferry Rd, Boydton, VA 23917 on Wednesday, October 4 from 6 – 8 p.m. Burial will be in Rounseville Cemetery in Freetown, MA at a later date.
