Mary Sue Cole, age 86, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Mrs. Cole was born in Nelson, VA on March 03, 1930 to the late Jeanette Wiles and Charlie Hamette Newton, Sr.She retired from Russel Stover Candy, where she worked in the box factory.Mary was a lifetime member of Nelson Baptist Church who loved her whole family, but especially cherished all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cole is preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands, Richard Slaughter, and Floyd Woody Cole; three brothers, Garland, James, and Charlie Newton; and one sister, Kathleen Crute.Mary is survived by daughter Donne Matthews (Ray) of Bullock, and son, Buck Slaughter (Darlene) of Nelson; two brothers, Dennis Newton, and Clarence Newton (Wilma); her sister, Margie Heath (Aubrey); her grandchildren, Brad Matthews (Laura), and Keri Askew (Matt); step-grandchildren, Dural Bowen, Jr. (Wendy), Donnie Bowen, and Dennis Bowen.She is further survived by her great-grandchildren, Luke Askew, Tyler Matthews, and Walker Matthews; as well as her step-great-grandchildren, Agatha, Jonathan, and Darren Bowen. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 30, 2016 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home 703 Virginia Ave., Clarksville, VA.Funeral services for Mrs. Cole will be on Tuesday May 31, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Nelson Baptist Church with burial to follow at the Newton Family Cemetery.The Reverend Don Wilson and the Reverend Aubrey Heath will be officiating.The family wishes to thank Jean, Alicia, Krystal and Angie for the loving care given to their mother.Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.wclfh.comArrangements are by Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
