Mary Louise Glaeser

Mar 28, 1938 — Aug 9, 2026

Mary Louise (Extrom) Glaeser passed from this life on August 9th, 2026, at the age of 88 years. Mary was born in Tomahawk, Wisconsin and lived her early years in the upper Midwest, though she honestly never shared a love for winter or the snow.

Mary was the loving wife of Jack Glaeser and a fiercely dedicated Mom to her children. Mom shared her love and support for Jack and her family through Jack's two careers in the Navy and the Army. They ultimately sold their retirement home in North Carolina and "retired again" to live full time in RVs (several actually), touring the nation together before finally settling in Tennessee. The RV not only afforded Mom the chance to be with her best friend, a few well-loved pups, and their dear friends in the USNA RV group, but also allowed Mom to escape the cold and snow and spend winters in Key West, Florida. Mom and Dad loved glamping before there was such a thing.

Mom was a prolific cook and always had meals prepared at the family table, all courses hot and delicious, prepared from a library of several hundred volumes of recipe books and magazines, filling our tummies and 2 freezers full of meals. Mary was also quite a holiday decorator. The family remembers (and participated) every Christmas when Mom would direct the “Christmas parade” of decorations boxes, and several trees, moving from the shed to the home, getting ready for Mom to distribute and beautify every nook and cranny of the home.

Following Dad's passing Mom came back to North Carolina to live near her kids and settled just "down the street" from her daughter Laura and Laura's husband Doug. Mom wanted family to spend time with family, so after moving to NC she would lead monthly family meals to keep us all together. She also cooked often for her church family, who she loved so dearly. Mary lived with her beloved golden retriever Maggie (one of many loved and spoiled pets in Mom's life) and mowed her own lawn until she was 87. Her home and heart were always open to her kids, extended family, and church family.

Mom left this life peacefully in Laura's home under her daughter's loving and watchful care.

Mary is predeceased by her husband Jack, her sister Ann and niece Susan, and great grandson Jack Stanley. Mom will be fondly remembered by her daughter Laura and her husband Doug, her son John and his wife Mikki, grandson Andy and his wife Amanda, granddaughter Jessica and her husband Tim and their sons Jerome and Theodore, and Mom's nephew Karl and his wife Lydia.

A memorial service will be held at Rock Spring Baptist Church in Henderson, NC, on Saturday, August 22nd, at eleven in the morning. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a kind donation to: www.aspca.org.
