Michael Lester Thompson

Michael "Mike" Lester Thompson, age 68, of Scottsburg, VA., passed away on April 26, 2026. He was born in Halifax County on June 29, 1957 to Eunice Hamlett Hux and John Thompson.

Mike was employed by the Virginia Department of Corrections where he retired after 25 years of service. Mike was known for his wicked sense of humor which helped him face many health challenges over the years, all while keeping everyone laughing.

Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, Judy Throckmorton Thompson, of the home, as well as his two babies; daughter, Michelle "Shelly" Talbott and granddaughter, Destiny Lynn Talbott both of Halifax; his sister, Mitzi T. Grove (Curtis) of South Boston and numerous friends and family.

Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Mac Thompson; son-in-law, Ronnie P. Talbott, Jr and his parents, Eunice T. Hux and John Thompson.

In light of Mike's love for baseball growing up, which was followed by many years of playing softball himself as well as watching Destiny play, we feel it only fitting to host his Celebration of Life this Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 5:00 PM on the Turbeville ballfield located at 1002 Melon Road, South Boston, VA. We ask that everyone come as you are, bring your lawn chair and all of your stories or memories of Mike to share with us. Ballfield style food will be served.

The family will receive friends at any time at the home, 1138 Easley Crossing Trail, Scottsburg, VA.
