Myrtle Elizabeth Spangler

Myrtle Elizabeth Lowery Spangler, of South Boston, Virginia, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the age of 85. Myrtle was born on May 11, 1940, in Halifax County, VA to the late Keister "Bug" Lowery and the late Rosa Yancey Lowery.

She was a loving mother, and an unfailingly supportive grandmother and great-grandmother, whose life revolved around her cherished family. A dedicated and hard-working woman, Myrtle spent an impressive 44 years working as a Burler Mender in the cloth room at Burlington Industries. Her commitment to her work showcased a level of dedication and meticulousness that carried over into all aspects of her life. Myrtle's passions included a love for adventure, frequently finding joy in traveling and exploring new places. When she wasn't on the go, you could find her enjoying the comfort of word search puzzles, embarking on shopping excursions, or spending cherished moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Vicky Hackney Sizemore of Bailey, NC and Janice Spangler of South Boston; grandchildren, Ronnie Rice, Jr., & Jake Rice (Jessica) of Middlesex, NC, Dylan King & Daniel King of South Boston; 3 great granddaughters & 3 great grandsons; 1 great great grandchild; sister, Erma Lowery; brother, Lawrence Lowery (Phyllis); and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Mark Boyd officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 3 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.
