Mrs. Reba Slayton Wade of South Boston died Monday, July 5, 2010 at the age of 79. She was born in Pittsylvania County on September 16, 1930 to the late Van and Martha Carmichael Slayton. Mrs. Wade was a member of Dan River Baptist Church. During her formative years, she was involved in athletics and many community services.She wed Henry Lee Ford in 1948 and raised her four children in Halifax County.In 1984, she married Thomas Wade and shared a joyful life and a passion for dancing and golf. She retired from Westinghouse (ABB) in 1991 after 22 years of service. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Wade; sons, Dennis Ford of Alamo, CA and Andy Ford of South Boston; daughters, Robin Ford Evans of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Tamara Wade of Halifax, and Michelle Claiborne of Richmond; brother, Lacy Slayton of Garner, NC; and 9 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Barry Lee Ford; and brothers, Nelson Slayton, Jim Slayton, and John Slayton. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10 at 2:00 PM at Dan River Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service and at other times at the home.
