Rebecca "Becky" Overby Parker, a treasured member of the Nelson, VA, community, passed away on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025. She was born in Halifax County, Virginia on August 27th, 1948 to the late Clarence and Rachel Howerton Overby. She was married for 55 years to the love of her life, Rufus Jackson Parker, Sr. Rebecca lived a life filled with love, service, and devotion.
Becky, affectionately known as Mama, Aunt B, or B.B. to her family and friends, was a dedicated beautician, having pursued her passion by attending Beauty School. Her hands not only styled hair but also nurtured and cared deeply for the countless individuals who were fortunate enough to know her. Becky was a member of Nelson Baptist Church where her deep faith was evident in her steadfast service to her church community. Rebecca was a founding member of the Bereavement Committee, established 23 years ago, and served as a Sunday School teacher for over five decades. Her contributions extended to numerous other church activities, where her leadership and compassion flourished. Rebecca's charitable heart reached beyond her church as she opened her home as a foster parent, wholeheartedly welcoming and nurturing each child and friend who entered her family’s lives.
Becky was not only a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother but also a beloved friend to many. She delighted in the simple pleasures of life: participating in the Red Hat Club, hosting and attending yard sales, and lavishing care on her abundant garden of flowers.
She is survived by her husband, Rufus; children, Angela Ladd (David), R.J. (Gabby & Denise) and Mark (Lisa); grandchildren, Parker Ladd (Sandra), Kali Parker (James), Chyna Lacks (Jared), Jackson Parker, Ethan Parker and Holden Parker; great grandchildren, Ryland, Jersey, Alaina and Laci; sister, Ruth Nelson (Charles); God child, Melissa Nelson, numerous other family members and a lifelong friend, Bonnie Wilson.
