Reverend Charles Joseph Farmer, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and esteemed minister, and teacher peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 16th, 2026, just days shy of his 95th birthday. Born on July 19th, 1931, in Power, West Virginia, Charles lived a life filled with faith, love, and dedication. At the time of his passing, he resided in Clarksville, Virginia, where he left a lasting mark on his community and church family.


Reverend Farmer's journey of service began with his education at the University of Pittsburgh, where he completed a Study Seminar with a Masters of Education. He furthered his theological studies at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, receiving a Masters of Divinity. This strong academic foundation propelled him into a lifetime of service to both his faith and community.


His passion for service extended to his country, as he served in the Navy, showcasing unwavering commitment and patriotism. After his military service, Charles devoted his life to the ministry. He served as a Minister at the Presbyterian of New Hope Church in Oak Dale, Pennsylvania, and also as a distinguished Minister at the First Presbyterian Church in Wheeling, West Virginia. His influence reached beyond the pulpit as he took on the role of Chairman of the Department of Religion at Louisburg College in North Carolina, shaping the faith journey of many students.


Reverend Farmer's legacy is lovingly carried on by his beloved wife of 69 years, Nicky Farmer, his daughter Melissa Day and her husband William, and his cherished grandchildren Ashly Murphy (Doug), Travis Day (Ashley), Jason Farmer (Renee), and Matthew Farmer (Tiffany), along with four great-grandchildren who brought immense joy into his life.


He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Paul Farmer, his mother, Alice Louise McGlumphy Farmer, and his dear son, Walker Scott Farmer. The love and wisdom of Reverend Farmer will continue to inspire and guide those he held dear, even as he is reunited with loved ones who have gone before him.


A graveside service to celebrate Charles's life and legacy will be held at the Oakhurst Cemetery on Tuesday, July 21st, at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, who have provided compassionate support during this difficult time.


Reverend Charles Joseph Farmer will be remembered for his steadfast faith, loving heart, and lifelong service to the spiritual and educational communities he so greatly enriched. He leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and unwavering faith in God.
