Rodney Dean Bowman of Nelson, VA. passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026 at the age of 59. He was born on August 4, 1966, in South Boston, Virginia, to Dawn Puryear Walker and the late James Alvis Bowman.
Rodney was well-known as one of the strongest, bull-headed men you could ever meet. His hands were those of a skilled mechanic, a trade he wholeheartedly dedicated himself to throughout his life. But his talents didn’t stop there; Rodney was also a carpenter and a natural jack-of-all-trades, a man who could turn his hand to any task and complete it with skill and precision. A devoted family man, Rodney cherished his loved ones deeply. He was especially proud of his role as a father and grandfather, tirelessly working to support and protect his children and grandchildren. His love knew no bounds, and his family could always count on him to have their back, no matter the circumstance. He found immense joy in the company of his beloved dog, Luna, who was his loyal companion in many of his life's adventures.
He is survived by his mother, Dawn Walker; his children, Ashley Cullinane (Stephen), Rodney "Bubba" Bowman, Jr. (Jessica), Shane Guthrie, Jimmy Kaywood (Joanna), Dustin Kaywood, Kelsey Bowman (Charles Terry), Travis Bowman (Alexis) and Felicia Bowman (Draven); grandchildren, Kinsleigh, Laythan, Hendrick, Odin Makaylyn, Dustin, Jr, Jackson, Juliana, Shane, Jr, Isabella, Brooklyn and Kendal; siblings, Randy Bowman (Debbie), Jamie Morris (Dennis), Ronnie Bowman (Miranda) and Timmy Comer; uncle, Lester Gordon (Bonnie) and his Fiancé of 25 years, Norma Kaywood.
A memorial service will be held to honor Rodney's memory at 2pm on Sunday, March 29th, at the TJM Community Center in Cluster Springs, Virginia with Pastor Norman Talley officiating. A burial will follow the memorial service on the family farm in Nelson.
