Ronald Dean Grant, age 85, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 12th, 2025, in his home in Buffalo Junction, VA. Born on Thursday, March 28th, 1940, in Springfield, IL, Ronald lived a life filled with brilliance, innovation, and dedication.
A scholar by nature, Ronald served as the Director and Chief Engineer of a prestigious research lab in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, at the University of Illinois. His groundbreaking work led to the invention of the log periodic antenna, marking significant contributions to the field of physics engineering. He was a talented musician, who loved his cats. He loved to dance and was very proud of his Scottish heritage. After dedicating decades to his scientific profession, Ronald found solace in farming tobacco until his retirement in the serene landscapes of Clarksville, Virginia.
Ronald is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 65 years, Lourine Sanderfield Grant. He was the proud father of two sons, Clayton John Grant and his wife Angie, and Charles Dean Grant and his wife Amy. His legacy continues through his cherished granddaughters, Katie, Caroline, and Maggie Grant, who brought immense joy to his life.
Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Ronald’s life, which will be held on Saturday, August 16th, 2025, at 2:00 pm. where Ronald will be laid to rest in a graveside ceremony at Oakhurst Cemetery.
