Rufus Edward Chandler

VIRGILINA Rufus Edward Chandler, Jr. went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the age of 95. He was born in North Carolina on July 14, 1926 to the late Rufus and Mattie Bumpass Chandler and married the late Lucy Elliott Chandler on July 20, 1945. Rufus was a graduate of Virgilina High School and furthered his education at Wake Forest University. He owned Chandler'sOne Stop in Virgilina from 1947 - 2012. He was veteran mason of the Masonic Lodge #248 for over 50 years becoming a 32 degree Shriner. He was a member of Florence Ave. Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and trustee. He is survived by sons, Donald Chandler and Roger Chandler (Linda); daughter, Jean Haddock from California; numerous grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Donna Chandler and his beloved pet, Rachel. The family wants to give a special thank you to all the caregivers from over the years, Sherri Stovall, Tameka Candice Burton, Ruthie Bardon, Arnette Burton, Linda Winstead, and Theodolia "Ms. Tweety" Sutton. Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Virgilina Cemetery at 2PM with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends and family at Rufus' home.
