Sara Whiteman Bowes

Sara Whiteman Bowes of Indiana and formerly of Alton, VA passed away on October 1, 2026 at the age of 89. She was born on February 24, 1937 in Columbus, Ohio. She was married to James Henry Bowes from September 2, 1966 until his passing on October 19, 2007.

She loved horses and animals and spent many years raising them. After that, she spent time doing things for others through her church. From nursing home visits and helping in the kitchen at church, she served by showing her faith selflessly. She was living most recently with her daughter in Florida and Indiana for the last 3 1/2 years. She was loved by her family and we find peace that she has been reunited with those that have gone before her.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky Bowes Grover and husband, Rick; grandchildren, Allyson Nolan (Justin), Madison Ashby, Ryan Grover and step son Greg Bowes.

There will be a visitation at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Saturday, October 10th from 3 PM until 5 PM. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, October 11th at Bethel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Roxboro, North Carolina, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
