Mr. Teddy Gray Owen of 1131 Clays Mill Rd., Halifax, VA died on June 26, 2012 at the age of 78. He was born in Halifax Co. on April 29, 1934 to the late Mason LeGrand Owen and the late Nannie Covington Owen and was married to Hollis Moon Owen. Mr. Owen was a lifetime member of the American Angus Association, a previous Vice President of Farm Bureau, previously on the Advisory Board of Southern States, and was awarded the Outstanding Cooperator Halifax Soil & Water Conservation District for 2003. He was a member of Crystal Hill Southern Baptist Church but regularly attended Winns Creek Baptist Church. A lover of all animals, he was an avid Black Angus Cattle farmer and a tobacco farmer. He enjoyed sharing his love of animals with all especially children. There wasn't a Saturday night that South Boston Speedway was open that he wasn't there early to enjoy the race and the company. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Hollis Moon Owen of Halifax, VA; one son, Daniel M. Owen & wife, Cecelia of Clays Mill, VA; one daughter, Janet O. Henderson & husband, Jeff of Crystal Hill, VA; five grandchildren, Jay C. Henderson & wife, Kelly, Joni G. Henderson & husband, Philip, Evan Owen, Matthew Owen, Mark Owen; two great grandchildren, Tye D. Henderson and Madison Grey Moorefield; one sister, Velvet O. DeJarnette; and a number of Nieces & Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Paige O. DeJarnette and Elizabeth O. Gosney; one brother, Earl C. Owen. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Winns Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Kopco officiating. Burial will follow in Crystal Hill Southern Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
