Thomas Clifton Coleman, III, “Tommy,” was born on November 9, 1950, and passed away on May 25, 2026, on his 52nd wedding anniversary he shared with his beloved wife, Mary William. Tommy was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and dedicated public servant.

Tommy lived a life defined by service, leadership, and unwavering love for his family and community. He retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections after many years of faithful service. Tommy was a longtime member of Boydton Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and trustee. He also proudly served as a member of the Boydton Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Being a lifetime resident of the Town of Boydton, he served on the town council and as mayor. Additionally, Tommy was a member of the Mecklenburg County School Board for seven years.

Tommy touched countless lives throughout his years of service and friendship. Above all else, he treasured every moment spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary William Newman Coleman; his children, Melissa Wilbourne (Dan), Marsha Seamans (Jason), Sara Moore, and Thomas Clifton Coleman, IV (Alyson); and his 13 cherished grandchildren, Makayla Gabrys (Justin), Ashlyn Wilbourne, Maryn Seamans, Taylor Seamans, Aubree Wilbourne, Kaylin Seamans, Barrett Moore, Reece Seamans, Colt Wilbourne, Thomas “Clifton” Coleman, V, Bryson Coleman, John William Coleman, and Dean Moore; and his first great-grandchild expected in November. He is also survived by his four siblings, Martha Gotschalk (George), Gary Coleman (Patricia), Steve Coleman (Lisa), and Kathy Wright (Buddy).

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Clifton Coleman, Jr. and Erna Rae Estes Coleman.

A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held at Boydton Baptist Church Cemetery 757 Madison Street, on Friday, May 29th, 2026 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends at Tommy and Mary William’s home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boydton Baptist Church Cemetery Fund and the Boydton Volunteer Fire Department.

His legacy of love, service, and devotion to family and community will continue to live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
