Tim McCoy Wilborn, a cherished member of the Alton, Virginia community, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the age of 92. He was born on September 27, 1933, in North Carolina to the late H.L. and Myrtle Wilborn. He was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Jeanette Woody Wilborn.
Tim's life was deeply rooted in his passion for the great outdoors. As a professional forester, he retired from the Virginia Department of Forestry. He dedicated his career to nurturing and protecting the forests he so dearly loved. His work extended beyond his professional life, as he shared his knowledge and commitment to conservation by embodying Smoky the Bear, visiting schools to educate children about forest fire safety. His enthusiasm for the natural world was infectious, inspiring young minds and fostering a love for the environment in the next generation.
Tim cherished life on his farm, finding joy in the simple pleasures of tending to his beloved trees and cattle. He had a special place in his heart for his fur companion, Baby, who preceded him in death. Their bond was a testament to Tim's kind and gentle nature.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Womack; granddaughter, Lora Howell & Dustin; grandson, Joey Womack; great grandchildren, Seth Womack, Edie Womack, McCoy Howell and Cadence Howell and numerous nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by son-in-law, Donald Womack and 3 sisters.
The family will be accepting friends and family at his home on Thursday, August 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. There will be no formal service at this time.
