Virginia Ann Hunt Roberts, affectionately known as "Poo", of South Boston, Virginia, passed away on September 6th, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and passion for community involvement. She was born on March 24,1933, in Wilson, North Carolina, to her beloved parents, Watkins Glenn Hunt and Elizabeth McDuffie Hunt.
Poo was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Dr. Lucien W. Roberts Jr., with whom she shared countless treasured memories.
Education was a cornerstone of Poo's life. She was a proud alumna of St. Catherine's School and Mary Baldwin University. Her dedication to learning was recognized with an honorary degree from Danville Community College, celebrating her commitment to practical and meaningful education. She instilled her value of education by teaching English at Halifax County High School.
Poo was a vibrant member of her community, devoting her time and energy to numerous organizations that mirrored her values. She found immense fulfillment in her work with the Blood Mobile, where her efforts helped save countless lives. She was also a spirited contributor to the South Boston Garden Club and the Master Gardener Program, fostering growth and beauty within her community.
Her deep-seated commitment to service was evident through her involvement with the United Way and the Halifax Community Hospital Auxiliary, where she provided comfort and hope to those in need. Poo served on the Board of Directors of SunTrust Bank and was a member of the Danville Community College Advisory Board. She was also honored to serve as an Emeritus Board Member of the Danville Community College Educational Foundation. Poo played an instrumental role with the South Boston Industrial Development Authority, where she championed the growth and development of her beloved South Boston and Halifax County. Her influence and dedication helped attract numerous physicians and industries to the area. She developed several local subdivisions and strengthened many downtown businesses. She was also instrumental in bringing important community resources to South Boston, including the YMCA and Commonwealth Assisted Living. Through her leadership, vision, and unwavering dedication to her community, Poo left a lasting and meaningful legacy in the town and county she loved so dearly.
Poo's life was a testament to the power of dedication, kindness, and the unyielding spirit of service. Her contributions to the South Boston community were as boundless as her joy for life itself. She was a devoted member of Trinity Episcopal Church and attended First Baptist Church as long as her health allowed.
She is survived by sons, Lucien Roberts, III and his wife, Amy, Glenn Roberts and his fiancée, Beti, Christian Roberts and his wife, Kathryn and Keith Roberts and his wife, Leslie; grandchildren, Lucien Wood Roberts IV, Alison Claire Roberts, Virginia Hart Roberts, Talley Francis Roberts, Caroline McDuffie Roberts and Lawson Hunt Roberts; and sister-in-law, Elaine Hunt.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Watkins Hunt.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 11, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the home of Christian and Kathryn Roberts, 2600 Halifax Road, South Boston, Virginia 24592. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on September 12th, 2026 at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Boston. A reception will follow the service at the home of Christian and Kathryn Roberts, 2600 Halifax Road, South Boston, Virginia 24592.
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, Commonwealth Assisted Living, First Care Hospice, Marsha's Homecare, and Brooks Lyon Funeral Home for the compassionate care, support, and kindness they provided for Poo and her family.
