Wayne "Andy" Anderson Wilkerson, of South Boston, VA passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on Wednesday, October 4th, 1961, in South Boston, VA, Andy grew up in the Finchley community near Clarksville, VA and graduated from Bluestone Senior High School in 1980. Andy lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family and community.
Andy was the cherished life partner of Amy Wehlitz of the home in South Boston, VA, with whom he shared many joyous years. He is survived by and was a devoted father to his four children: Ashley Baird and her husband Brian (Oxford, NC), Kerry Wilkerson (Richmond, VA), Jennie Hewitt and her husband Trey (Zebulon, NC), and Kevin Hartman (Clarksville, VA). He was also a proud and loving grandfather to Parker and Brooklyn Baird, Raelynn, Rylee, and Reese Hewitt, and Bryant Hartman. He is also survived by his beloved pet dogs, Bennett and Griff.
Andy is survived as well by his brothers, Jim Wilkerson and his wife Connie (Buffalo Junction, VA), Mike Wilkerson and his wife Denise (Winchester, VA) and his sister, Trisha Cole and her husband Mackie (South Boston, VA). He was also the beloved uncle to Aubrey and Eileen Wilkerson, and Anna Claire Snook and her husband Tyler.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Mildred Wilkerson of Finchley, VA, and a granddaughter, Kayleigh Maylynn Devening-Wilkerson of Richmond, VA.
Andy was an athlete at heart and was passionate about sports, having played both football and baseball during his high school years. Andy was also a member of the Mecklenburg Rescue Squad for many years.
Known for his generous and kind spirit, and cheerfulness and humor, Andy was deeply loved by those who had the good fortune of knowing him. Andy also encouraged and mentored many with substance abuse issues to seek help and follow the principles of recovery. He was a strong advocate for TROSA, Inc., a multi-year residential recovery facility in Durham, North Carolina. Many people's lives were deeply affected by Andy’s guidance and friendship through their journeys to recovery.
Though we mourn the loss of Andy, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the wonderful privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell, we take comfort in the legacy of love and warmth he leaves behind and find solace in our cherished memories of him.
