Virginia Lynn Wilkinson

May 15, 1931 - April 27, 2022

Virginia "Dixie" Wilkinson, 90, slipped into Heaven on April 27, 2022, at 8:45 AM. She was born on May 15, 1931. Dixie moved to Clarksville in 1945 from her birthplace of Yonkers, NY, at the age of 15. Dixie would remain in Clarksville for the rest of her life. After graduation from high school in 1948, she began work at Burlington Industries and remained there for 36 years, retiring in 1984. Not one to be idle, Dixie went on to work at the Clarksville Library, where she spent 22 years happily serving the residents of Clarksville. Dixie additionally served as a docent for the Prestwould Plantation, where she joyfully gave tours of the property. She loved to read, mysteries and best sellers were to her taste. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, Alma Phillips of Yonkers, NY and James Howerton Wilkinson of Clarksville, VA; her maternal grandparents, Augusta and William Phillips of Hastings, NY, and her paternal grandparents, Allie Pugh and Walter Wilkinson of Clarksville, VA. Her brother, Jimmy Wilkinson of Yonkers, NY and his son, David William, also preceded her in death. Dixie spent many holidays with her brother, Jimmy, and his family in NY. Our Dixie will be so missed by family, friends and neighbors. Her remaining family includes her brother, William Wilkinson of Bunnell, FL; her three nephews (Jimmy's sons) James Mark Wilkinson of Orlando, FL, Paul David Wilkinson of Okinawa, Japan, and Thomas "Tommy" John Wilkinson of Mahopac, NY; as well as many great nieces and nephews. Dixie's friends, neighbors and former library patrons will be saddened by her passing. Still Dixie has passed into eternal bliss and we are filled with Joy! Dixie was a member of Clarksville Baptist Church. Many thanks go out to those who sent cards while she was housebound, and also go to Erika and the aids of Hospice of Virginia, who made Dixie's last moments in the former "Meadowview" Nursing Home comfortable. This gave great comfort to those who loved her most. We request donations in lieu of flowers be given to Hospice of Virginia in Farmville. It’s wonderful that they also serve nursing homes. Dixie loved dogs, cats and animals in general, so we also suggest a donations to the Lake County SPCA. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.wclfh.com. Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
